Crazy weather - Part I
The weather has been, well, odd lately. Cold. Windy. Raining. Hailing. Sunny. Repeat, not necessarily in that order, but frequently with randomness. Two days ago on our morning outing in the forest, I noticed hail that had fallen overnight collected on the leaves of these sunflowers. It hadn't melted.
Unfortunately, there's no gate and guard at the edge of the forest, checking for environmental intelligence and ensuring idiots don't get in.
I found this big, messy fire ring in the middle of a sandy logging spur road in the forest above the house. This road is one of my favorites, as it leads to Sound of Music Hill. The girls and I walk here frequently. I almost cried when I saw this mess.
There were beer cans strewn about, plastic water bottles partially melted in the fire remains. All the white stuff thrown about in the upper portion of the photo is used toilet paper. This occurred just off the main forest road, easily accessible by vehicle.
Barbarians.
I plan to ask a neighbor to help clean it up. I can't stand the thought of walking by this for the rest of the summer.
Luckily the barbarians who abuse the forest are too lazy (drunk? high?) to get far off the main road, so my Sound of Music Hill is undisturbed. I hope they don't even know it exists.
OK. Here's my excuse: the grass is SO LONG in the yard because it has been consistently wet, with rain at some point almost every day for the past month. The grass never dries. My added excuse: yesterday when I finally worked up the nerve to try to start the lawnmower for the first time this year and attack this jungle, I broke the starter rope. On the first pull. I think I broke the engine. I think I'm in the market for an electric mower. I think I need a goat. The girls might like that.
