Velcro Girl

I've referred to Meadow as the Velcro Dog since I first realized that most everything sticks to her unique woolly fur. This is a dog who should never chase anything through a blackberry bramble, or anything else with stickers, or she'll never come out. Honestly, it's amazing what will get stuck in her fur.

It snowed against last night. (OK, even I'm getting a little sick of it now.) Just enough to add a thin layer of white to the ground. Just enough to make huge chunks of dirt and gravel from the yard stick to Meadow's fur.

If I'm not paying attention, she'll bring it right into the house with her, where it eventually falls onto the floor after her fur dries. Sometimes I'll get up in the middle of the night and step on a big piece of gravel she's brought in. Ouch! Meadow's pretty good about shaking when I ask her to, before entering the house, but under these wet snow conditions, stuff sticks so securely to her coat that even shaking won't get rid of it. Only a brush will clean it off.

I've included a photographic illustration of the issue. I took this earlier this morning, after she'd been sleeping in the yard and moved to the concrete pad right outside the door, waiting for me to let her inside. The dirt and gravel was still stuck to her hip.
